For the past 2 days i have had an on going headache from when i wake up, until i go to bed. It’s not a migraine but a thumping located in my temple and eyes that i can seem to get rid of. I have also had blurred vision for a week or so but i remember with my last child having eye problems so i really didn’t think much of it. I have been extremely weak and dizzy but i’m just getting out of my first trimester so i was blaming everything on my hormones and adjusting until my mother took my bp it has been running 89/43 which is on the low end. So could these symptoms be caused by low bp or just the body getting use to baby. I will call my doc in the morning but i didn’t know if anyone else had bp problems and pregnancy, what your side effects where and what you did to help the situation. Thanks in advance!
Yes, I have the same thing. My blood pressure is 90/48 and I get terrible dizzy spells. My midwife said that dizziness is a symptom of low blood pressure and just don’t stand up/get up too quickly. She also said to keep my protein intake up and that will help with keeping the blood pressure up.

Risk of catching HIV,HEP C from blood lancet?
I used my grandads blood testing kit the other day to check my blood glucose levels.
He had to test himself so he went first! I then also went. The Only problem is i cannot remember if he changed the lancet that goes into your finger to draw blood! I mean i think he did but i am not sure.
He is 72 years of age and seems healthy apart from diabetes, what are the chance of getting HIV and Hep c from a lancet? We waited about 60 seconds before it was my turn. I think he changed it over in that time.
May i add i am schizophrenic and suffer from paranoia and anxiety..Which i take meds for!
First, you mentioned your grand dad has diabetes, but not HIV or HEP C. If the has neither of those conditions, there is no concern that you’ll catch them from the lancet he used.
Keeping that in mind, you need to be more careful about using someone else’s test equipment. If in doubt about whether or not a needle or lancet has been used before, just don’t use it yourself.
If your grand dad has HEP C and HIV, you potentially exposed yourself to both viruses. You should talk to your doctor about appropriate testing.

What would be a good beginning diet plan for a person going vegetarian?
I will never be a strict vegan, ( no slight intended.) I am trying to eliminate animal proteins in my diet for medical reasons. Purine content to be exact. My body does not seem to metabolize it very well. I just am having trouble finding a diet plan to meet what I need. I am diabetic, with high blood pressure, severe gout and kidney stones among other problems. jimminy crickets this gets depressing!!!
Ha Ha Ha, thanks for the kick in the pants over being lazy. I always look for the easy way around. I have looked for somethings om the internet but it seems that what a diet for lowering uric acid calls to avoid, a iet for diabetes says I should be eating, Whole wheat for example and various legumes.
Try things rich in fiber, iron, and protein.
Green leafy vegetables are great… Spinach has a lot of iron in it… Beans and nuts for protein, Peanut butter and such. Also try eating fish unless you are going to be a strict vegetarian… but fish is metabolized differently than other animal meat, and also has a lot of protein in it. maybe take a multi vitamin if you dont know how to create a balanced meal without meat.
Whole wheat pasta, sweet potatoes, and brown rice are great for fiber… it is pretty straight forward… look for protein… always eat something GREEN, add some color to your plate, eat fruit… and go online and look for vegetarian recipes… stop being lazy about it… foodnetwork.com…

I am not diabetic nor anyone in my family has diabetes. Recently I just happened to check my Hemoglobin A1C at a wellness screening program offered by my work. I just did it because it was free(with the insurance I had). And when the results came in the mail, everything was in range and looked good except Hemoglobin A1C, which was 6.1. But then my glucose level was normal, about 76. What could be the reason for Hemoglobin A1C to be out of range? I am also 15 weeks pregnant. I do have a doctor’s appointment next week, but I still wanted to dig in for some answers before that. Thanks for your time and help.
****The report said normal range is 4.8 to 5.9.
Who told you your A1C was out of range, less than 7 is considered normal. If it does go up with your pregnancy you would have gestational diabetes.
Labs can have different normals
I have type 2 diabetes
Any time you have an abnormal lab value it must be repeated to rule out lab error
Did you fast for this blood test?

Having trouble obtaining a reading with my One Touch Ultra glucose monitor. Anyone have any tips?
I use the one touch ultra. Depending on what your machine is doingQ Is it showing an error? You need to make sure that you code the machine to the code on the bottle of strips first. When you first put a strip in you can use the button to change the number, when it matches stop or press ok. Then when it beeps it is ready for blood. Put the tip of the strip up to your blood so the strip can suck it up and it should display the reading. You don’t need alot of blood, but enough to fill the little slot that sucks the blood up. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more help!

How does one treat the side effects of “Long-Term” Sleep Apnea?
I have had sleep apnea for over 20 years now, and have been using a C-PAP for 10 years. My rest and energy levels are better(not fantastic, but better). But I am still dealing with the long-term effects of Oxygen starvation to my brain: Lack of concentration, lack of focus on difficult tasks, very bad memory, both short term and long term.
I have tried Stratera and Prozac, both suggested by my doctor, and they did not seem to help much. Has anyone else with OSA struggled with this problem, or perhaps overcome it?
When answering, please keep in mind that I am not talking about untreated OSA. As I said, I have been on a properly-calibrated C-PAP for 10 years now. My problem seems to be more on the level of “Brain Damage”….
If I were you, I would find a support group for sleep apnea on the internet and ask the people who have experience in this.

What type of Littmann stethoscope is best for nursing students?
I am starting nursing school in a few months and I am needing to buy a stethoscope. Money is not a problem I am just unsure as to which one will work best. I am wanting to buy a Littmann but can’t decide between the cardiology iii, or classic ii or classic s.e.
I love my Littmann® Lightweight II S.E. Stethoscope It comes in many colors that match our uniforms it is lightweight so that when we have long shifts they don’t feel heavy across our necks. Many of my fellow nursing students have the same model. It has great sound as compared to some of my friends stethoscopes or the lame ones we had in our lab during first semester! Ug. The bell had 2 sides and can turn for lungs or cardiac. I love it, I am sure you will be happy with whatever one you choose.
