Dumbest thing I ever heard, no, it won’t help so don’t waste your time. Reduce or cut out your salt intake, try to stay stress free, get plenty of rest and see a real Dr who knows what they are talking about. So many stupid people out there trying to give medical advice known nothing about what they are talking about.

I have to take a urine drug test I know the cut off for the test sticks is 50ng/ml and the gas spec is 15ng/ml?
I am a 52 250 lbs poor health in a pain management program for the last 10 years Taking morphine 15mgx3 with lyrica 100mgx3 a day I also smoke weed moderate use 30 years I last smoked on aug 2 on aug 3 my DR. gave me a referral to have a blood test and a urine tox test I have home tested on the 13th came up pos then drank some water and came up neg thee test I used was for 50ng/ml as I am going to come up pos for the morphine will quest use the GS/MS to test for the THC even though I passed the dip test? If I do come up pos for the thc what is the DR going to do? HELP
If you are in a pain management clinic, then your sample will be sent to a clinical laboratory, and it sounds like you already know this, as you stated that the sample will be going the Quest Diagnostics for analysis.
The home test kits as well as the “in house doctor’s office” test kits, are based on technology related to TLC (Thin Layer Chromatograhy). This is a pretty cheap way of doing drug screens, however it has poor sensitivity and is not typically all that qualitative (meaning it can’t tell exactly which drug compound you have present, just the class of drugs the compound falls in) nor are they quantitative (meaning they do not give the clinician the exact amount of the free drug compound and its metabolites). So basically these are quite a bit easier to pass than send out testing. Also, these test kits are easily interfered with. So just because you are comming up clean on this test kit, does not mean that you will come up clean when it is run in the laboratory.
Most of the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring for Canabonoids and THC is done via an instrument called a TDX. The reason here is because it is a cheaper method to order than testing via GC or GC-MS. However, it is still possible that your pain clinic is willing to order the more expensive assay which would be done on the GC or GC-MS. In this case it is just a matter of what the specific laboratory’s detection limits are set to (basically what they use to set thier calibration curve) as to whether you will get nailed or not. The 15 ng/L is not an across the board sanadard for low limit of detection. While I was in graduate school, I worked for Quest’s main competitor, LabCorp in the tox department, and out low end on our calibration curve was not nearly that low. Also the GC and GC-MS methodologies are also set up to monitor for interfering factors. So taking any of those flushing agents will be worthless.
Basically if you are being prescribed the morphine by the pain clinic and are sticking to the dosage instrutions per your doctor’s orders, then showing a positive for morphine and its metabolites will not pose any issues to you. Also, opiates metabolize out of the system pretty quickly anyway, so even if you were taking more than you were supposed to, as long as you lay off (cut back to the correct dosage), then you should be ok by the time you have to give the urine sample.
As for the THC/Canabonoids, well this of course has a much longer half-life elimination. The rule of thumb as established by Roche and LabCorp is 30 days upon last consumption of the drug to have a clean urine sample for TDX and/or GC, GC-MS analysis. Now of curse this is subjective to many factors. Age, weight, physical condition, and most importantly, metabolic rate. I would suggest continuing with the water and doing what you can to boost your metabolic rate (naturally of course). Exercising is good. It does not have to be high impact, just something to get the heart rate up and the blood pumping.
If you do pop the positive for the THC, then most likely your doctor will have a talk with you. If you have not violated your contract before, then they may give you a slide, but if you have violated and been caught before, then they could possibly deny you as a patient. You may want to be considering why it is you are smoking the marjuana? If you have a good enough reason (I.e. it helps with neausea from the morphine, or helps you with sleep, etc.) then the doctor may accept that and try to help you deal with those issues w/o the use of an illegal drug. Most pain management specialists do understand that chronic pain is a difficult issue for patients and takes a lot of work and med adjustments to help these patients. So they are typically understanding if you are just honest with them.
Good Luck

Does anyone know of a theropy for a cat with diabetic neuropathy to his hind legs?
Homer is about 3 1/2 years old. I got him from the SPCA about a year ago.I was out of town for about a month in Oct.-Nov. and when I returned, he was having trouble walking. He was diagnosed with diabetes and can barely walk now. It breaks my heart to watch him. I am disabled so I don’t have much money but I have a lot of time to work with him. Please let me know if you know of something that might help him.
You could try some home physical therapy. If you hold him in your lap and just flex his joints for him it may help him regain mobility. To help him get back to walking better you could walk a few laps around a room while supporting some of his weight a few times a day. You can support his weight by slipping a folded up towel or pillowcase around his abdomen just in front of his back legs and holding a little of his weight. Here is a picture to give you an idea of how to support his weight: http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/6347/bll2a3fu.jpg
Also if you bring in some interesting new toys or maybe some catnip and other goodies that may give him more of an incentive to get more exercise.

Anyone experience high blood pressure during pregnancy – especially before 20 weeks?
After a perfectly normal pregnancy only last year, I now am having dizzyness, sweating, hot flashes, and a very scary incident of partial loss of vision. My blood pressure has also been elevated. I expect to hear that I have high blood pressure when I see my OB later this week.
I am only 9 weeks pregnant.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any recommendations for coping?
If you had meds, which one did you use and how were the side effects?
Any tips on handling the day-to-day symptoms?
I have had high blood pressure from the beginning of my last 2 pregnancies and now this one. Just rest and take it easy and if u are working dont be surprised if the doctor tells u to quit if he gets to high. I am now taking procardia this time and was taking aldamet with the last ones. They had no side effects and it helped tremendously, with no ill effects on my babies.
Insidermedicine In 60 – May 25, 2010 – Blood pressure
Lately, I’ve noticed that the blood vessels in my arms, hands, legs, and feet are wider than usual…dilated, in other words. I recently stopped taking my prescriptions for depression and ADHD a week ago and I haven’t noticed a return to my previous depressed, anxious, ADHD self; it’s almost like I’ve been miraculously cured. I stopped the medications because after years of taking them, they were greatly increasing my pulse and blood pressure and causing arrhythmias. I’ve suffered from mental illness for half of my life and now I find myself suddenly going into remission for no apparent reason. It’s funny because for the past couple of years, I would be suicidal if I wasn’t on medication and now I’m not on anything and I feel normal! Anyways, I was wondering if my enlarged blood vessels and lowered pulse (dropped from 90+ bpm to 65-70 bpm) is a result of the drugs leaving my system. Is there any correlation? Thank you!
ADHD medications have side effects and an elevated blood pressure is one of them. ADHD medications affect the nervous system and result to feeling anxious which will result to an increased heartbeat.
As you had stopped taking such medication and feeling back to normal now, the blood pressure are being back to normal as well. With the drug not affecting your system for now, your blood vessels are getting more relaxed or dilated as its effect (that can contribute in a lowered pulse rate). As the drug effects on the nervous system is no longer dominant, there will be no more “anxiety feelings” so the speeding of the heartbeat will be resolved for now (that would mostly be the reason of the lowering of the pulse rate).
It would be great if you are having remission for now. Learn ways that can lead you to a more satisfying life.
