How can i find out what is right, I have one doctor that tells me to take pills and insulin for my type 2?

Nothing can cure diabetes. If you have it, you have it for life. However, some people, in the early stages can control it with diet and exercise and see enough improvement to put off pills/insulin for up to ten years. If you doctor is prescribing metformin and insulin you are probably past that stage.
Most people have type 2 diabetes for quite a while before they find out, on average about 11 years in fact. Its a silent killer and usually has no symptoms until it gets bad enough to cause complications, and cause quite a substantial rise in blood sugar as well.
Vitamins, minerals and herbs will NOT cut it. They might help your overall general health a bit, but they certainly will not treat the diabetes and anyone that claims they can is probably a quack.
Take the metformin and the insulin, do what you can to improve your diet and get more exercise. This will all go a lot further than supplements can.
It won’t hurt to take a good general multivitamin and mineral supplement just as a precaution in case your diet lacks what you need sometimes. It won’t help your diabetes but it might help prevent osteoporosis or other conditions related to vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
The real proof is in the pudding. If you wanted to experiment, you could take just the vitamins for a week or two, but you’d be gambling with your health. You would have to test your blood sugar every day at least 6 times a day, before and after meals, and not change anything else. You would have to record your results to see if there were any really effective improvement from the supplements alone. I don’t recommend wasting your time on it, nor risking your health. You have diabetes, you need to start an effective treatment now, not later on.
When I was already on insulin I tried vitamins and herbs and they really didn’t make a dent in my blood sugar. It was a waste of time and money.
When you start the metformin, and insulin you may not see huge improvements right away because both these medications have to be started on low doses and worked up slowly to find the dose your body needs. You may not see real results for a month or more, but if you test you’ll see your numbers gradually coming down, and that’s the real proof of what works. It has to be done safely and slow is safer when dealing with insulin.

Metformin is a very safe medication and has a lot of benefits for diabetics. Insulin not only brings your blood sugar down, it can also help save your beta cell function, so its a good thing. I think your doctor is giving you great advice and I hope you take it.
One thing to note, metformin can cause gastric problems when you start taking it. It takes time for your gut to adjust to it, meanwhile it can cause diarrhea and gas. If this happens, what helps most people is to take it with a serving of yogurt and a full glass of water, before your meal. Look for a yogurt with no sugar added, such as Danone. It works. Most people find that the yogurt cancels out these problems. If it doesn’t, ask for time released metformin, but give it a month and see if the regular one taken with yogurt works first. You might be lucky and not have problems at all, but I thought I’d pass this info on, just in case.
