I need some creative presentation ideas. The topic is type 2 Diabetes and I want the presentation to be unique and not the usual powerpoint or poster. The presentation needs to be about 15 minutes long. Any ideas?
You will have to have SOME visuals, either an electronic presentation (PowerPoint is only ONE presentation software–there are others) or a video or a “poster” of some sort.
However, you can add your own twist by doing one or more of these things:
1. Prepare a handout outlining the symptoms of type 2 diabetes, the action at the cellular level of insulin and glucose, and the interaction of diet and exercise in prevention of and management of diabetes.
2. Bring in a glucosemeter with the lancets and test strips to demonstrate how diabetics test their blood sugar. They’re fairly expensive, but you may be able to enlist the aid of a physician who can get them for you to use in an educational presentation.
3. Bring in the “food demo” kit that diabetic educators use to demonstrate “portion control” and “appropriate diet.” Let your classmates prepare a “meal” using the plastic/rubber food, then show them the “meals” that are considered appropriate for a person with type 2 diabetes.
4. Prepare a handout listing the risk factors for type 2 diabetes and include a questionnaire for your classmates to determine (a) do I know what the risk factors are? (b) do I have any of the risk factors? (c) do I know how to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes? I’m fed up to the teeth with propaganda about eating, drinking and smoking. I’ve got arthritis and can hardly walk (age 52). It is 6 weeks before I can get an X-ray and consultation with a rheumatologist, and I have to pay 60 quid to go to the consultation in a hospital 17 miles from my home, even though there is a hospital within a mile of my house.
