I have graduated from college and am entering my professional career for the first time! Needless to say I am very excited! I do however have a little issue I need some advise with. I am diabetic. I need to always have my meter, insulin, and a snack with me at all times.
Since I don’t know were I will be in relation to my car in the parking lot, I was thinking of bringing a small shoulder bag type case. Maybe like a small backpack or something?
Would this look OK and be acceptable for the first day? Or should I take my chances and just leave all my supplies in the car? If I do carry it on me, I want it to look as professional as possible.
Thank you,
Brad
Congratulations on your graduation!
You should take your supplies with you. I am also a diabetic, however, I found out after I’d been with my employer for two years. I bring a bag with me that contains my breakfast, snacks and lunch for the day so that I am not tempted by restaurants and/or vending machines. I also keep glucose tablets at my desk and I’ve made all my coworkers well aware of my condition.
I am assuming you’re in the USA and as such, diabetes is covered under the ADA. Therefore, your employer should make resonable accomodations for you, such as allowing you to eat when you need, test, etc.
In my personal experience, I’ve found that most company’s and people are understanding and will not judge you.
As for the carrying case – a small backpack should do. I carry a black shoulder bag with silver writing on it.

Is this blood pressure and pulse considered normal? HELP!?
Before this measurement by five hours i have taken a beta blocker (propranolol 10mg) because my heart rate usually goes up to 148 upon standing.
Laying down: 118/77
pulse: 75
Sitting (after 2 mins): 119/81
Pulse:76
Standing (after 2 mins): 104/79
pulse: 112
Standing (after 5 mins): 108/74
pulse: 109
Standing (after 12 mins): 111/83
pulse: 105
Is this considered normal?
I have been “clinically” diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) that is why i started on beta blockers about a week ago.
Thank you.
18 years old female
127 pounds
i work out a lot… so i do a lot sports
All of the blood pressures and heart rates you provided are completely normal. Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80, therefore yours is great. Heart rate can increase in normal individuals by 20 beats per minute when comparing lying to standing. POTS is if it increases by > 30. Not surprisingly your heart rate increased by about this much, but you already are diagnosed with POTS.

Hi, My mom was recently diagnosed with Charcot’s joint. She has been an insulin-dependent diabetic for over 30 years. She had osteomyelitis in her big toe about 10 years ago, which was amputated and a recent partial toe amputation on the other foot due to osteomyelitis. This Charcot’s joint seems to be progressing fairly quickly since her diagnosis about 2 months ago. She keeps fracturing her foot and ankle. Before the Charcot’s joint issue, she was a very active person. She is in pain and I am not sure what I can do to help her, so that is why I am asking for any suggestions. Please help. Can anyone tell me about treatment options or surgeries that could help her prevent future amputation of that limb. Thank you for your time.
The damage from this condition is not reversible, although certain orthopedic procedures can sometimes alleviate symptoms and prevent problems from progressing. The underlying cause is death of nerve tissue usually from uncontrolled or poorly controlled diabetes, but sometimes it happens in spite of good glucose management, especially in elderly people.
The link explain some ways to address the problem:

I am a 22 year old female with a blood pressure of 110/55 and a pulse of 70. What does that mean?…
What might that indicate for my overall health?
Normal blood pressure range is 90-140 for the top number and 60-90 for the bottom. Your top number is normal and the bottom is slightly below the normal range. This does not necessarily mean you have low blood pressure; other symptoms that would need to be taken into consideration are, lightheadness, and dizziness. Sometimes the blood pressure may appear low if you rescently went from a sitting to standing position before measuring your bp. I wouldnt worry about it. Your pulse, its within the normal range of 60-100 beats per min. Usually athletes have a lower pulse range starting at 40.
As for your overall health, you cannot solely base these two measures as indications of health. However, many illnesses cause these numbers to fall out of normal range. If you are worried about your overall health, opt for a physical examination with your family doctor.
Hope this helps.

My father recently passed, this was a purchase, not a rental or insurance item. As we deal with the estate/belongings, Imy sister and I scratch our heads over what to do with this; I believe my father spent over ,000 for this- it has a carry case, battery, a little trolley, etc. Am I able to sell this, as a friend has told me a Rx is needed by any potential buyer. I’m in the dark, we’d like to sell it for what its worth, even less, whatever, but dont know, again, what we’re able to do with this (legally, I’d guess) or what our options are
i wouldnt want to list it in the classifieds or eBay if thats a no no. Any input appreciated
I am looking to go away on holiday and need a portable concentrator for travel and whilst i am there they are very expensive to buy and was wondering if anyone knows where i could maybe hire one.

Is there such a thing as sugar and carb free pudding?
I thought i saw an add for it in a diabetes magazine. But then, when i went to the store, they didn’t have anything like it.
Yes there are and they really dosn’t taste that good. I often test out product that have “No Sugar Added”. Try these and test your blood after about an hour. Don’t eat more than you should at one time and don’t do it more that one between medications ot shots. Somwtimes it is hard to find things that are advertised and the cost if often twice as much. Rice pudding made with Splenda is really good with cinnamon on it. There are a few brands if pudding with no sugar added as wil has many fruit drinks and cranberry drinks. Just don’t over do it and test your blood after testing a new product.
