Planning to eat non-diabetic-friendly stuff on Thanksgiving?
We are having my father-in-law and mother-in-law over for Thanksgiving this year. My FIL is a diabetic and in poor health generally. This may be his last Thanksgiving, potentially. Anyway, my husband and I asked my MIL what special foods we should have for my FIL given that he is a diabetic, and she said that she was going to let him eat whatever he wants that day (she manages his diet for him). This seems dangerous to me, but my husband only shrugged. I told her that we would be sure to have the hospital on “speed dial” in a joking way, but I was a little serious. This is dangerous, right? You think maybe I should have some sugar-free desserts on hand just in case? I would feel so guilty if his health declined or worse because of a meal that I helped prepare. Is this not a big deal? Thanks for any advice.
You are kind to care about his health, but probably Thanksgiving is not the time to be rigid about the diet. As another person said, it’s just one meal. Sounds like your fil has already made a lot of bad choices that won’t be remedied in one day.
If you do want to take something that’s lower in sugar, I think that the reduced sugar boxed brownie mixes taste great. And you don’t need to tell anyone they are reduced sugar. The majority of sugar free stuff is just crappy.

Oh, gee, I feel for you!! I too am taking the nasty steroids and they were doing a number on my glucose levels. I simply cut down on the grams of carbs I am eating. So I am back to a very highly restricted 20 grams of carb.
I eat absolutely no grain products, no starchy veggies and no sweets at all.
I am on insulins and oral as well. So this is no picnic.
Meats and salads and maybe an apple a week.
think of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and green beans as very very low carb fruits and you can do this.

I am not diabetic and I dont have athletes foot or any fungal infection. My shoes are fine; this happens with ANY of my shoes. I have tried insoles and other similar products but nothing seems to work. This has actually caused me to lose a job because I could not walk. Is there some sort of bone condition or something that could be making me prone to this?
You need to get this checked. This is not normal. Fluid retention is a common cause of blisters like that.

I am looking for a cookbook with simple -easy to find ingredients- recipes.
My dad has type 2 diabetes. He’s overweight and I need to start cooking for him so that he can lose weight and at the same time control his diabetes immediately because his doctor called and told me if his diet is not controlled he could have a heart attack.

Has any of you pregnant women out there had a baby diagnosed with Ascites while doing a sonogram?
After they saw Ascites, fluid in the baby’s abdomen, on the sonogram I have been worried sick! I also had an amniocentices and there was no virus in me or the baby or any genetic disorder ( no karyotype abnormalities). Im 32, with no gestational diabetes or highblood pressure. I was told that sometimes Ascites clears up by itself. My baby has mild Ascites and I have too much amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios,29 amniotic fluid level when the normal limit is 22?), but I had that (polyhydramnios), with my other pregnancies and those babies came out fine,honor students, in fact. Please help me if anyone has had a similiar experience please share it with me and tell me your personal oucome, situation or any encouragement
My best friend just had her baby and on ultrasound was diagnosed with Ascites. She had a ultrasound done everyweek, and the fluid got less and less. She was induced at 34 weeks, and when the baby was born the Ascites was gone. Where it went? I duno! The baby had a little extra skin on her belly from where it was swollen from the fluid. So they know that the Ascites was there.
If that is the only thing they have diagnosed her with than don’t worry too much. Your baby will probably be sent to NICU for ovservation, but they have ways of draining the fluid.
