My sister was receintly diagnosed as a diabetic. The only “real advice” she was given was to watch what she ate. What does that mean? Are there specific foods that need to be avoided? Are there any websites out there that have dietary guides? Thank you for your help.

This site is good.
It’s important for diabetics to keep the blood sugar level fairly constant. Your sister should see a dietitian as soon as possible.

To health care professionals, I am trying to learn to take this with a sphygmomanometer – and all I can hear in the stethoscope is muffling noise and not the Kortokoff sounds I want. I am meant to listen for a “bad-dum” sound, right?! I have trouble with this and I have a test and no equipment at home.
it does jump a little but i want to do it properly by listening to what is happenin but i cant distinguish the korotkoff sounds before its too late
Find the radial pulse first, pump the blood pressure cuff up until you no longer feel the pulse, release the air. Next palpate the brachial artery in the antecubital fossa. Place the head of the scope there. Pump the cuff up 30mmHg higher than when you lost the radial pulse before. You can hold the scope in place with the same hand you are using to hold the bulb, place the fingers of the other hand on the radial pulse. Deflate the cuff at 2 mmHg at a time. While listening and watching the dial feel for the radial pulse. This should help you in determining the exact “sound” you are listening for. you may hear the pulse before you feel it. That is normal. If you still have a hard time hearing the pulse, let the diaphragm of the scope lie on the bracial artery and don’t hold it. I have had students press to hard and obliterate the sound.

I am planning on attending an event on Wednesday that requires me to dress semi-formal, or i guess you could say business casual…i don’t want to go in wearing a suite, but no t-shirt either. I was thinking something along the lines of a black sweater with a dress shirt and some nice dress pants. I have khaki and black pants, and a white and a silver shirt. What should i do…also would i be able to pull off this “sweater-dress shirt combo” with jeans? and how should i wear the dress shirt..tucked in, hanging out, cuffs of the sleeves showing….any additional advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Its appropriate. You could definitely pull off the sweater dress shirt combo with jeans but make sure the jeans are dark washed or dark denim. The darker the blue, the better.

I just tried putting Splenda in a banana bread recipe I have. It turned out pretty good. I don’t think it rose as much as usual, but it taste good. What other things have you used Splenda to cook with?
Yep. Use it just like you would pure sugar. Measure for measure. No difference or very little difference in taste. Bread pudding worked out real well. Rice pudding also.

Why has walmart dropped Olivio butter spread made by Lee Iacocca’s foundation?
They have donated 25 million to diabetes research. I went to the walmart store in Lake City Florida to get some more in the 2# size tub, and was told it was discontinued. I found the blend of olive oil and canola, etc. to be of agreeable taste and texture that rivals butter, within a reasonable price per pound. Some politics afoot? or a butter spread war going on?
Lack of demand…
