Will a whole body vibration board help my 80ish parents who need to, but often don’t feel like exercising?
One has moderate diabetes, the other mild osteoporosis. They can walk, but not far, are afraid of tripping and falling, don’t like to be out in the weather, etc. I’d be afraid to put them on a treadmill, and there are no gyms nearby. Would just standing on a WBV board actually provide exercise benefits for them ?
Hi, I have been doing alot of research on whole body vibration exercise and may be able to help. From what I had read in various research reports, yes. Vibration exercise is very good at fighting osteoporosis and moderate diabetes should not be a problem. But you could easily check with their doctor just to be safe.

Diabetes question….doctors only please!!?
My husband age 52 was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic about 2 yrs ago. He consistantly gets blood work 4 times a year and takes Metformin (Glucophage,) for this condition. He has always seen the Nurse Practioner at the Dr’s office. His blood test results have been 6.5 for over a year now, and the Nurse Practioner has said he was doing fine. Today he goes in to review his bloodwork, which again was 6.5 but this time saw the Doctor. He said his blood sugar level was too high and DOUBLED his dose of Metformin. He’s all upset now and screaming at me (like it’s MY fault somehow??) I don’t understand why the Doctor did this, and of course my husband was too scared or too stupid to ask any questions (it’s alot easier to just pick of the phone and scream at his wife.)
When he checks his bloodsugar with the meter thingy it’s always between 121-126. I know it’s supposed to be 90-120, but it’s only slightly over that…Some advice here please would be very much appreciated!!
6.5 is good, and he is to be congratulated. I wish mine was that low!
However, recent studies in the UK and US have shown that the tighter the control, the better the outcome. By telling him to reduce the Hba1c His doctor is trying to give him tighter control, thus giving him the best chance of staying healthy and complication-free for the rest of his life.

What are three important aspects of oral tradtion that make it important to any culture?
I am doing a research project on oral tradtion/folklore. I got two points, but I need a third point for my essay. My first two points are the fact that oral tradition allows youngsters of the next generation to be taught various beliefs/morals via stories and my second one is that it gives us structure to society. What could be a third point?
I would think the third point would be the preservation of the history of a particular culture. Oral tradition presents the lore in a way that written words will never impart, i.e. – we can study heiroglyphs as long as we want to – but they will never give us the full impact of what was really going on in ancient Egypt.

Is an apnea/hypopnea index of 6 (sleep apnea) bad enough to merit treatment?
I have other health problems and I was searching for answers so I did a couple of sleep studies. When I wore the CPAP it caused “centrals” to occur so they did not recommend I use a CPAP for treatment. Is an AHI of 6 really that bad? It seems to me that sleep disorders are becoming an easy business and everyone and their brothers are getting into it to supplement income. I know a 6 on the AHI scale is “mild” but what is mild. Define mild because one word alone does not really mean much. I wonder, statistically speaking, if most everyone has a low rating and they are just trying to make a buck.
You are correct-sleep medicine has become a big industry.
First, I would like to say that the CPAP per se did not cause the centrals-they are apneas caused by a failure of the brain to tell your diaphragm to move vs. the airway closing so attempts to breathe are blocked. An improperly titrated CPAP is what causes centrals. The thing to do for that would be go to a different sleep lab.
That said, an AHI of 6 indicates an EXTREMELY mild sleep breathing disorder-I can’t tell you what to do but if it were me I think I’d just let it slide unless you are having a lot of trouble staying awake during the day. Good luck to you.
