There are three main ways to have oxygen supplied to your home. Each has advantages and disadvantages depending on your needs.

Tanks of Liquid Oxygen
Oxygen is stored as a very cold liquid in these tanks. When the oxygen is released from the tank , the liquid changes to a gas. Although liquid oxygen is more expensive than the compressed gas, it takes up less space and is easy to transfer to portable tanks.

Tanks of Compressed Gas
Oxygen gas is stored under pressure in either small, portable tanks or large, heavier tanks. The large tanks are kept for home use, while the smaller tanks can be carried around with you.

Oxygen Concentrator Machine
This electrical device separates the oxygen out of the air and concentrates it. It is not as expensive as liquid oxygen, but you must ensure you have a tank of oxygen as a backup in case of a power failure.

Methods Of Breathing Oxygen From Your Tank Or Concentrator

There are three ways in which to breathe oxygen from your tank or concentrator

Nasal Cannula
This is soft, plastic tubing that rests on the ears. Two thin plastic prongs fit just inside the nostrils.

A mask
The mask fits over the nose and mouth. It may work best if you need a high flow of oxygen. Trans-tracheal This method of oxygen therapy requires the insertion of a small flexible catheter into the trachea (windpipe).

The trans-tracheal catheter
This is held in place by a necklace. A humidifier is usually needed with trans-tracheal oxygen.
