Could I have inherited diabetes?
I am a sixteen year old girl. I’m petite, I’m 5’1 and weigh approx. 116 lbs. At the beginning of 2011 I weighed about 140 lbs. . . I have done crunches but I don’t see how I could lose THAT much weight with just a small amount of excersise. Here are some other signs.
- I have always had poor circulation in my feet and hands. They’re ALWAYS cold no matter how warm it is outside. Wearing socks all of the time doesn’t seem to help any.
- I bruise very VERY easily, I always have.
- I am tired a lot of the time and can’t seem to fall asleep until about 2 in the morning . .
- I always seem to want sweets. Wether it be chocolate or sugar I want it.
- I over use salt (but I always have ever since I was a little kid)
- I am fatigue most of the time.
- I’ve noticed that my urine is nearly always green and I drink liquids frequently

My grandmother on my mother’s side has diabetes (I’m not sure which type it is). . .
Could I have diabetes? If so what type?
Sorry Avandia is the WRONG answer. It is about to be pulled from the market. My doctor took me off of it 2 years ago. Avandia is a combo drug. Two different drugs to make one. I would be very carefull about this drug and it is only available by prescription.
Was your grandmother on insulin? Did she have it as a child? If so she may be type 1. Chances are she is type 2. You can still take insulin and be type 2. Childhood is a key.
You need to be tested after an 8+ hr fast, first thing in the am, before you eat. You can usually get tested for free nowadays. Pharmacies or clinics. Your age may be a problem. You may be an adult. Some of the things that you are worried about could be related to diabetes. That is why you need to be tested.
Are you sure your urine is green. Not dark yellow. Dark yellow could be dehyration along with other things you described. Kinda weird: Is your poop green (too much iron).
Dehyration describes more of your symptoms than anything.
Please get checked. What about a school nurse?
Good luck
